Wedding Trends 2013

Weddings are ever changing. Here is a list of our favorite wedding trends for this year:

Glitz! Glitz! Glitz!
Much to our delight Glitz and Glamour are here to stay.  Trending right now: Black tie in an outdoor setting. Imagine crystals on the tables, chargers and waiters in crisp uniforms at the Emilio Wilson Park for example.

Start with the color
The Color palette of choice this year: NEUTRAL. That’s right. We are going bare. Add some blush to create an impact. Think champagne and maude or vintage rose.

Smile! You’re on camera
For those of you thinking that the photo booth has lived past its glory days. Think again. Photo booths are forever present this year in weddings as well as social and corporate events. Having had photo booths at our events we have seen first hand how a it can bring people together and create a fun atmosphere for attending guests. Not to mention the keepsake your guests will get to take home.

If a photo booth is out of your budget there are some great easy-to-do and very unique backdrops that you can have at your wedding. We featured this ribbon backdrop at one of our recent events.

What’s a wedding without flowers?
Orchids are out and Peonies are totally in this year. Remember though that this delicate flower only blooms for two months out of the year. Brides, remember to place your order on time and well in advance. When planning a wedding on St. Maarten it is good to remember that most if not all flowers are imported. It takes time for the flowers to reach this tropical destination.
Since we’re on the topic of flowers: Lots of green in your bouquet is a no-no for the year 2013. What is in are cascades with long lush flowers.

Out with the Tall!
Tall centerpieces placed in the center of the table is a thing of the past. Thank Heavens! In our opinion it has been completely overdone. And not to mention how we dislike the way it obstructs your view of the person sitting opposite you at the table.  The two L’s are the way to go: Low and Lush.

Sweets for my sweet
Dessert tables are here to stay and we couldn’t be happier. We are seeing more and more dessert bars popping up. And the trend now is a dessert bar by color. Check out this Paris themed dessert bar we did in the party colors black, white and pink.

Green means Go
Green weddings are in high demand. Eco friendly locations, favors and invitations made out of recycled material and organic food on the menu. Good 2 Go is a company to keep in mind when planning your green wedding. They offer biodegradable plates and cutlery. We actually like the look of it and the colors are neutral enough to fit in your color palette of choice.

Isabelle Souccar - Hand Made Jewelry with a West African Flare

Bamako born Isabelle Souccar has long made a name for herself here on St. Martin as an artist.

Her jewelry creations are not only beautiful but unique in the materials that she uses.

Isabelle Souccar
She owes her creativity to her West African culture and her mother who took her to local markets while searching for materials for her own jewelry line and thus awakening a curiosity in a very young Isabelle.

A chance encounter with a Tuareg jewelry maker that specialized in mainly silver and ebony on a trip to Mali 6 years ago led to her first design.  Her specialization has since evolved to antique glass beads and contemporary silver, bronze, amber to sometimes cotton, leather and antique clay.

Combining the materials while preserving and sharing every single history attached to each material is half the pleasure she gets during the creative process. Preserving heritage is key in each design.
